Brief Bio

On a hike near Peepul Point, IIT Mandi. PC: Prof. TAG.

Manas Thakur is an assistant professor in the school of computing and electrical engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi. His research interests include program analysis, compiler optimizations, programming languages, software engineering, and parallelization. His group at IIT Mandi is named CompL.

Manas holds PhD and Masters degrees in computer science and engineering from IIT Madras. His thesis (supervised by Prof. V. Krishna Nandivada) titled “Precise and Efficient Analysis of Java Programs” won one of the institute research awards and (jointly) the IBM Best Thesis Award in 2019-20. Prior to this, Manas obtained a BE in computer technology from KITS Ramtek, securing fourth rank across several institutes affiliated to RTM Nagpur University. He was also placed in the merit lists released by CBSE and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan in high school, and was subsequently nominated for an exchange program with Japan by the Government of India.

Manas hails from the beautiful town of Balaghat, situated in Madhya Pradesh (India), and claims that if not in computer science, he would have been a historian. He also writes poetry and articles (technical and otherwise), teaches Yoga, and likes traveling.
